European Borders and Border Regions in Comparison

Border regions are laboratories of European Integration. On grounds of border regions we can examine the relationships between neighbouring countries. Due to the direct contact between at least two nationalities, the possibility of a stress-free social co-existence dismantling prejudices and stereotypes can be studied with the help of regional examples.
In the framework of the seminar PhD- and graduate students from different European countries will deal with this topic. A special emphasis will be put on the comparison between the German-Polish and German-Danish border region. How did both develop historically? What kinds of problems/issues do inhabitants of border regions have to face? What does the social coexistence look like? How far have prejudices and stereotypes been overcome? It will be questions such as these that participants will deal with during the seminar. In the end all results of the discussions, lectures and analyses will be published in a collected volume.
