UNESCO conference in New Delhi
1. The conference is being jointly organized by UNESCO, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as a national consultation on the theme 'Open Educational Resources for inclusive Development: Identifying Challenges, Addressing Opportunities'.
The two-day conference will focus on present challenges to the creation and use of Open Educational Resources (OER) and identifying opportunities for intervention for inclusive development through OER. The consultation will focus on seven themes, which include OER for persons with disabilities and OER for skill development. All discussions will be recommendation- and action-oriented. OER concept is based on the philosophical view of knowledge as a collective social product, and so it is desirable to make it a social property. The concept is gaining importance across the globe in dissemination of knowledge without any barriers.
Release of 50 higher education courses via MIT's Open Course ware in 2002 was the foundational moment for in the sharing of educational content via the web. Sivaswaroop will be speaking on OER for skill development considering his 'Ground Zero' experience in in the field. He has been instrumental in taking education to rural women, tribal people in Gadchiroli and prisoners.
