Better National Cooperation on Education Planned

German cultural ministers resolved at a plenary session on 15.03.2018 to introduce far-reaching measures to improve transparency, comparability and quality in the German education system.

The resolution is designed to consolidate the foundations for a functioning system of education federalism, which will stimulate improvements to the quality of the education system and equal opportunities within it.

Further agreements between the German Länder are proposed, as is a list of general questions on education policy. The option of an interstate treaty is also on the agenda; this would improve national cooperation, comparability, mobility and quality within the education system. The standing conference of culture ministers commissioned a working group of department heads to prepare the key points in more detail.
