Japanese government strongly influences textbooks
Since the first term of Shinzo Abe as the Prime Minister of Japan its government has shown efforts to make sure that their political right-wing opinion gets implemented to the education sector. It recently authorized textbooks for the first and second year of high school which contain descriptions of the Kanto Earthquake and “March 1 Independence Movement” naming ambiguous numbers of victims.
Furthermore the textbooks distort the comfort women-issue which is a historical fact. 27 of 35 social studies textbooks also claim that Dokdo, an island lying in-between Japan and South Korea in the Japanese Sea is “illegally controlled” by their neighboring country. According to own national media, South Korea hasn’t used its chances to prevent this conflict by changing its approaches to this debate too often.
