Novel gets banned from Israeli curriculum

The BORDERLIFE-titled book by author Dorit Rabinyan was banned from Israels curriculum for its characters having an intercultural romantic relationship. The ministry official Dalia Fenig said the “Adolescent youth tends to romanticize and doesn’t have, in many cases, the systematic point of view [...] about the [...] identity of the nation and significance of assimilation. The two heroes are a Jewish woman and a Palestinian man who get to know each other in New York. Fenig fears that tensions might inflame in classrooms and criticizes the timing of the publication, since over 150 Israeli and Palestinians were killed in conflicts within the last three months.
