The Center for Open Education at University of Minnesota is offering a digital platform for open university textbooks in cooperation with the Open Textbook Network. Open textbooks are textbooks that have been funded, published and licensed to be freely used, adapted and distributed in the accordance with the Open Access concept.

All textbooks in the collection are either used at multiple institutions of higher education or are affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. They can be downloaded for at no cost or printed at a low cost.

The Open Textbook Library is motivated by the high costs associated with tertiary education which lead to the exclusion of students and candidates with more limited financial means.
