Rajasthan changes its English textbooks

The State Rajasthan in India is planning a change in its English textbook contents. The responsible committee is about to focus more on local and national cultures and persons instead of chapters about Africa or international poets and statesmen like Nelson Mandela. Chapters which are not compatible with the local value system are to be left out. But there is going to be a progressive turn on the subject of boy-child-preference: the campaign “Save the Girl Child” will be covered in the textbook and contain stories about the strengthening of the women movement.
