The state of Haryana in India is about to introduce moral education classes which will include the major books of common religions: The “Bible” from Christianity, the “Quran” from Islam, the “Bhagavad Gita” from the Hindu religion or the “Guru Granth Sahib” from Sikhism. Since the focus of religion is on shaping people’s characters the Haryana education minister Ram Bilas Sharma decided to add some of the most relevant book passages to the textbooks from grades six to twelve.

During the preparations for the curriculum update critics mentioned the possibility of a regression if the changes will be implemented; they speak of Saffronisation. Nonetheless the reforms will be applied to the curriculum this month.
