French reforms meet with disapproval

The French education minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem holds on to her set of education reforms despite strong criticism of the unions and opposition. She does not appreciate the sudden calls of the parties to scrap these reforms since they were clear from the beginning and open for discussion. The upcoming changes in the education system will strike the Latin and ancient Greek language in schools in particular. The minister intends to replace these classes with more general lessons on ancient civilization and to grant more autonomy to schools in decision processes. The French education system wants to provide exactly the same education to all of the children; unfortunately, there are still wide differences between schools in wealthy and poor areas of the country.
