Hinduism and Islam in curriculum of California
After two years of development the education board of California is about to introduce a new curriculum framework with many changes of the historical and social contents. A special focus is on the depiction of ancient India which contains most countries of South Asia. Hinduism, the Islam and its basics and practices as saints, music, dance, art, Vedic sages or scientific contributions are included.
But those are not the only added aspects: the many hearings and discussions resulted in a more comprehensive consideration of topics as genocides, voter education or the contribution of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender in the United States. Most of all the interest groups of Hinduism and Islam vehemently supported the correct depiction of their religions in the textbook.
