New Zealand teachers speak of ‘educational apartheid’ in schools

A group of New Zealand secondary teachers from the Post Primary Teachers Association (PPTA) claims that schools abuse their zoning and enrolment rules to exclude children from poor families. They use the term educational apartheid to describe the consequence of exploiting weaknesses in the system. The teachers are asking for a review of this system to retain students’ right to attend their nearest school.
