In Texas, a discussion started about passages from the textbook “Mexican American Heritage”.  According to the text, “Mexican laborers were not reared to put in a full day’s work so vigorously. “There was a cultural attitude of ‘mañana’, or ‘tomorrow’, when it came to high-gear production.”

Moreover, a committee of Texan educators published a report including a high number of other errors in the textbook. Professor Gonzales from the South Texas College is worried that these mistakes might be accepted from the students who will be taught history with this book. Among the consequences he fears the rejection of the heritage and the community by Latino students and the development of prejudices.

Once more protestors went to the Texas Board of Education in Austin, Texas and raised their voices against the discriminating passages. In September the board actually rejected a paragraph after over 100 people showed up and spoke their mind.
